Park Hyung Sik Joins Han Hyo Joo In Talks For Apocalyptic Thriller Drama

Park Hyung Sik may be playing a police officer in his next drama!

On April 15, Ilgan Sports reported that Park Hyung Sik had been cast in the role of the protagonist in the upcoming tvN drama “Happiness” (literal title).

A source from United Artists Agency clarified to Sports Donga, “He is positively reviewing [the offer for] the drama.”

“Happiness” is an apocalyptic thriller that takes place in a time when infectious diseases have become the new normal. In a newly constructed apartment in a large city where the higher floors are up for general sales and the lower floors are rented out, the drama depicts the subtle psychological battle and the class discrimination that occurs. The city hits rock bottom when an impending apocalypse hits in the form of a new type of infectious disease in which people suffer from unabated thirst. “Happiness” will be helmed by producing director (PD) Ahn Gil Ho and writer Han Sang Woon, who worked on “Watcher” together.

Park Hyung Sik was offered the role of the male lead Jung Yi Hyun, a violent crimes detective. He used to be an up-and-coming baseball player in high school, but a knee injury forced him to quit the sport, and he decided to become a police officer instead. He is an intelligent character who works for the common good rather than personal greed. Park Sung Hoon was previously offered the same role, and Han Hyo Joo is reviewing an offer to star as the female lead Yoon Sae Bom.

It was also reported that Jo Woo Jin was cast in the role of commander Han Tae Suk of the Armed Forces Medical Command. Han Tae Suk was an information agent while serving in the military, and after being discharged, he worked as an executive at a pharmaceutical company. He is the perfect person for a position dealing with infectious diseases.

Last month, it was revealed that Park Hyung Sik was in discussion to star in “The Golden Hairpin” (working title). According to a new report from Sports Chosun, the drama’s producers were originally planning to buy rights to remake a Chinese original work, but they have ultimately decided to write a new story of their own. The drama’s production was reportedly pushed back from June to September this year, giving Park Hyung Sik time to star in a different drama before it.

“Happiness” will be produced by Studio Dragon and is scheduled to air in the second half of the year.
